Preface: I live in Boston. I go to cons sometimes. I have never gone to Readercon. Because I don’t want to. I am not going to Readercon this year. Other than a general lack of interest, It would be logistically impossible for me to go to this year as I will be working. I have read two of Nnedi Okorafor’s books. I liked them. I plan to read more.

So I was practicing updos in my mirror last night because I want to go to the beach and I am terrible at them, when I tweeted a thing:

Like if people can mistake Mark Oshiro for Daniel José Older, this is a thing that would definitely happen. Also it HAS happened to me with other people in the most random places. If you would like to hear a funny story about that, ask me in comments.

Anyway, it turns out Nnedi Okorafor searches her name on twitter? Why do writers do this? I didn’t @ you? Quite purposefully? OMG?

It figures that when I finally rip the bandaid off on this unused blog and made a text post where I write words at length that I thought up myself, it would be to clarify something embarrassing. Honestly, it’s better this way.

REASONS I HAVE NEVER GONE TO READERCON, AND PROBABLY WON’T AT ANY POINT IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE

(None of these reasons are specifically Nnedi Okorafor)

It is under these specific circumstances that being mistaken for Nnedi Okorafor just because I too am a black woman with glasses and long dreadlocks is elevated to the height of comedy.

In short, worry not: there won’t be anyone cosplaying one of Readercon’s guests of honor at the hotel bar this year. I just make jokes on twitter.

Next time: VIDDING!
